Gold Coast League Series 2008-09

The Gold Coast Club uses the WWSL handicap system for its League Series. The basic rules are,

Skiers are allocated a handicap by the computer scoring system based on a formula that ensures that all skiers are capable of winning on the day.

The following will help you understand the score sheets below.

League Division

Pro” means a skier had posted a score in the past 12 months that is equal to or greater than 60% of the best skiers in the world in his or her division. This is based on major world junior, open, and senior tournaments.

Super” is short for Super League which where skiers are running the full course, have been awarded a handicap but have not obtained a Pro rating as described above.

Qualifying” is short for Qualifying League which is where skiers are running a mixture of half and full course buoys and as yet have not been awarded a handicap.

W/card

In league skiing if a skier misses a buoy they can have a second chance by using their wild card. If a skier uses their wild card their final score is adjusted down by two buoys as a penalty. In this column it will show either yes or no as to whether a wild card was used or not.

Buoys QL

Qualifying League skier’s scores are shown as a total of full and half buoys scored in their 4 passes.

Gross Score

This is the skiers score compared to “Par”  as in golf (Par being 6@13m)

If you look at the Oct tournament you will see

Dayna’s score is 10, her score of 2@14.25m is 10 buoys above Par.

Matt’s score is -8 his score of 2@11.25 is 8 buoys below Par

Handicap

This is the skier’s handicap as compared to Par which is worked out by the computer program.

Dayna’s handicap is 11 buoys

Matt’s handicap is -7.5 buoys

Net Score

Is calculated as gross score minus handicap equals net score

Dayna’s score is gross of 10 minus handicap of 11 = net of 1 under Par

Matt’s  score is gross of -8 minus handicap of -7.5 = 0.5 under Par

Lowest score wins therefore Dayna wins by 0.5 of a bouy.

The computer program recalculates the handicaps after each competition ready for the next month.

Points

The skier with the lowest net score is the winner and gets 50 points 2nd place 49 and so on. The skier’s top 4 monthly scores count towards the series.

Pro%

This is what the skiers score on the day is compared to the worlds best skiers in his or her division.
